Arturo's Puffy Taco

Everything I have ever wanted in a taco shop is in “Arturo’s Puffy Taco”. Not only are their tacos innovative and delicious, their burritos are out of this world. Complimented by a red and green salsa, this was quite a treat. The lady taking orders recommended getting salsa on the side if you are ordering tacos to go. This was just a precaution to make sure the tacos didn’t get soggy, nice touch.

The Burrito:

I decided to order a chicken burrito, no lettuce, rice, cheese, beans and chicken only. Later I found out you can order a “Chicken Combo” that is just beans and chicken. Let’s start off with the tortilla: perfectly crisped and held its form well. The rice was perfect, everything you want in rice, texture, taste and color. The beans were also perfect, I am pretty sure they use lard in their beans because they were just too good to not have lard in them. The cheese was generously handed out on this burrito. Make sure you warp the bottom, otherwise it will fall apart (it didn’t happen to me but I was taking advice from a local).

The pinnacle of this burrito? The chicken. Out of this world, words don’t do it justice. My first bite of the burrito was pure chicken, almost entirely white meat. Big chunks of chicken, they were so big I am sure they were from the breast. Just looking at the chicken, it appeared as though it had been marinated for some time. But once I bit into it, I knew it had been marinated; it fell apart in my mouth. Incredible flavor, texture, appearance and the best part was that it wasn’t greasy at all.

I don’t put salsa on my first bite because I want to get a true taste for the burrito. With that in mind, I wish I would have. I chose to salsa verde because I generally tend to like those more. This was a fresh made salsa sent from the gods. Chunks of cilantro and onion littered this salsa. Heat was perfect, a bit milder than say, Tapatio. It was the perfect combination of onion, cilantro, tamatillo and jalapeno peppers that really had me hooked. Complimented the burrito perfectly, couldn’t ask for anything better.

The Taco:

Having the name “Puffy Taco” would imply that the taco shell is puffy. Well, this is most certainly the case. The shell is puffy, warm, crispy and can hold a lot of meat. The taco came with a surprising amount of meat, in this case carne asada. Their carne asada was perfectly tender and marinated to perfection. The taco also came with lettuce and cheese both of which were generously placed and perfectly fresh. The lettuce was surprisingly crisp, something I have come to neglect when eating at traditional fast food restaurants.

I chose to go with the red salsa for the taco, wish I wouldn’t have but we will leave it at that, I would rather not be negative.
Overall this place was right on, will definitely eat here at lease once a week. Get a burrito and if that doesn’t fill you up, get a puffy taco.

Wing-Stop

They serve at least ten different beers, in the bottle and they have their televisions tuned to ESPN. Beer, wings and sports on a lunch break, right on. I got five wings (dipped in cajun sauce) a boat of fries, ranch dressing, atomic dressing and a soda, not bad for fewer than ten dollars. Best part is I will have a nice snack for later.

Let me elaborate on this atomic dressing. It is HOT. Not hot like jalapeno, but hot like burns your lips and you need three sodas to extinguish the small fire in your mouth. With that in mind though, it was tasty, the peppers weren't over powering and it was the right consistency. It wasn’t hot enough to not eat though, which some hot sauces that are extremely hot can be. On a scale of one to ten, ten being the hottest I would rate this an eight.

Their fries are freshly cut (while I was eating I could hear them being cut) and perfectly salted. There were some crunchy ones, some soft ones. The outside for the most part was crunchy while the inside was moist and soft. Pretty good fries.

Really good wangs man. Chicken wasn't dry (wasn't greasy either), slathered in their signature cajun sauce with seasoning on top. Their ranch dressing was delicious and the consistency of it was perfect. The wings were battered perfectly with the right amount of crunch.

I think it’s safe to say I will be eating Wing-Stop in the near future.

Welcome.

Tired of reading all those food review panels that talk about the setting of a restaurant? Me too. Tired of reading about how the water didn't have enough ice or the server wasn't friendly? Me too. The fundamental problem with these reviews is the fact that they stray away from talking about the food. Let's not forget, we eat to satisfy our hunger. If you don't enjoy your food because you didn't like the cleanliness of a spot, the location of a spot or anything along those lines, then quite frankly my friend you are off point. Now if you don't like a place because the food was sub par, that is a whole different story.

I want to hear about local food that is fast, reasonably priced and makes you want to come back. Ever watch Diners, Drive-ins and Dives on the Food Network? Well this will be very similar. I also want to know what variations of a menu item make it ten times more delicious. For example, I used to get a spicy chicken burrito from Del Taco sub the rice for beans and get chicken soft taco sauce instead of green sauce. The result was a delicious combination that has yet to stray from my memory. Ben will go to Jamba Juice and get a citrus squeeze, sub out almost everything for something else with the end result being the only item I desire from Jamba. Brockly Beef once ordered an enchilada plate with an egg on top and it was delicious. Brown will order pizza, get the crust extra crispy and it makes the pizza so much better. All these variations transform the experience and make it something personal. That’s exactly what I want to hear about. I want to hear about these tiny hole in the walls that you would pass by on a normal basis, but once you eat there you regret ever passing by them before. Hell I will even talk about my own cooking or a friend’s barbeque because I love to eat good food.

I will post pictures of the food as well because hey, your eyes can increase desire for food. And from time to time I will post some music to entertain you while you are waiting for your food.

So here we go!
